House R.
San Damiano d'Asti, 2021–2023
A staircase with the house around it
The renovation project for Casa R stands out for its ability to reinterpret the existing structure, enhancing its historical elements and integrating them into a contemporary architectural language.
The project resulted in the creation of a spacious and bright single-family residence, obtained from the redevelopment of an existing building, previously divided into two commercial units on the ground floor and an apartment on the first floor.
The layout of the spaces has been redesigned, unifying the two levels through the introduction of a sculptural staircase, a distinctive architectural element.
The staircase, the visual focal point of the home, serves as a connecting element between the floors, while concealing practical functions such as shoe storage and a wardrobe.
New openings, created in the stairwell, amplify the perception of space and generate striking plays of light.
On the ground floor, the living area consists of a spacious living room, a dining room overlooking the private garden, a bright kitchen, and a utility room. The upper floor has two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a laundry room, creating a functional and cozy sleeping area.
The texture of the exposed brick walls and vaulted ceilings gives the rooms character and authenticity. The attention to detail and choice of materials help to create a refined and comfortable atmosphere, where light and space are the protagonists.
